Understanding AI API Pricing
AI APIs are priced per token. A token is roughly 0.75 words, so 1,000 tokens is about 750 words. You pay for both the input (what you send) and output (what the AI returns). Input is typically cheaper than output.
How to Estimate Your Costs
Start with your expected usage: how many requests per day, and how many tokens per request. Most applications use 500-2,000 input tokens and 200-1,000 output tokens. Multiply by your expected daily volume, then by 30 for monthly costs.

Anthropic Claude 3.5 Sonnet: $3 per 1M input tokens, $15 per 1M output tokens.
